Blue rose stories

I would like to dedicate this story to Alia who is not with us anymore. Rest in Peace Alia!

Chapter 1: So It All Began…

During lunchtime, we, I mean, my friends and I were hanging out on the school roof. Myta was poking at the sandwich her mother had packed, trying to decide if it was edible or not. Myta had long blonde hair, and blue eyes. She was slightly taller than me. She hated school, and anything academic, because she was good at sports. Emma, was very tall and had long black hair and she wore glasses. She loved to read and wasn’t very coordinated, but she was nice and quiet. She was reading a book. And Eve was lying back on a lawn chair because she was feeling sick. Eve was shorter than me and was skinny. She had brown hair that fell to her back and brown eyes. For a while I had been sketching, but I finished my drawing and got bored. I had short red hair and brown eyes. Periodically I would look over Emma’s shoulder and read, but I would get bored with that too.

Eve began to squirm, and then all of sudden she jumped up and ran to the edge of the roof. She threw her head over the rail and puked. I ran to her side, followed by Myta and Emma. “ Eve are you ok?” I asked, not realizing it was a dumb question.

“N-no, I, f-feel, dizzy” And with that she fainted into my arms. I groaned slightly at the extra weight, but she was light and I didn’t drop her.

“Eve!” Myta shouted, and grabbed her water bottle. She carefully wetted the edge of her shirt, and began to dab Eve’s forehead.

“We need to take her to the school nurse.” Emma exclaimed. “I’ll go get Max.”  She ran down the stairs.

I laid Eve down, and sat with her head in my lap, brushing her hair out of her face so Myta could wet it. “Poor Eve, she was complaining of feeling sick earlier.” Myta told me.

            “I know, I wonder what’s wrong”

Emma soon ran up the stairs followed by her boyfriend Max. Max was tall, and had a bit of muscle on his long arms. He was kind of shy and tried his best not to be caught alone with Emma because he would get nervous. “Whoa, what happened to her?” he asked when he saw Eve on the floor.

“She fainted,” Myta told him. “Carry her to the school nurse.”

“Um…ok,” he said, sounding slightly surprised at the request, but he didn’t object. He bent over, and put one arm on her back, and the other under her knees. When he pulled her up her head rested on his chest.

When we got to the nurse’s office, the nurse had Max set Eve on a bed, then told him he could go.

“Ok girls, tell me what happened.” The nurse requested, sounding a bit accusing. We all looked at each other, before Emma decided to speak.

“Earlier she was feeling sick, then she threw up and fainted. She didn’t hit the ground when she fainted because Ria caught her, I don’t know, she just fainted.

“Ok girls, go back to doing whatever you were doing and I will take care of her.”

“We’re not leaving her miss,” I told her while my friends gave me warning looks.

“You’ve done your part now go!” She began to sound irritated.

“You don’t even know her name! How are you supposed to call her mother, or what if you give her something she’s allergic too?” I almost yelled.

The nurse mulled this over for a second, then spoke. “Ok, one of you girls can stay, to help fill out some paperwork, but the other two must go.”

As if they knew I wasn’t leaving her, Emma and Myta left, making signs with their hands to text them the updates. Then, with a heavy heart, I sat down, and called Eve’s mom.

Chapter 2: A Bit Worried

Three days after the incident, Eve still hadn’t returned to school, and all of us were a bit worried. She wasn’t returning my calls, or texts, or E-mails. None of us had heard from her, but Eve’s mother called Myta to ask her to get Eve’s homework once, that was the day Eve fainted. The morning of the fourth day without her, I finally cracked. “That’s it! Eve is our friend and we have a right to know what is going on with her!” I yelled. “Come on girls!”

“Um…where exactly are we going?” Myta asked worriedly.

“To Eve’s house.” I sounded cold and determined.

“But school starts in ten minutes!” Emma protested. “We’ll never make it!”

A creepy smile washed over my face, I turned around. “Haven’t you ever ditched before?”

I started running towards the gate and judging by the footsteps, I could tell they were following. “ No!” Emma yelled.

Eve lived five blocks from my house, and I lived five blocks from the school. I kept running after we had crossed the street, and soon Myta was at my side running too. Emma jogged slowly, trying to keep up. When Myta and I reached my house, Emma was a block behind us. We sat on the porch and waited for Emma, who was panting and sweating.

“Ok, my mom left about ten minutes ago for work, so let’s run in and change.” All of us frequently slept at my house, so we kept extra clothes on hand. I let Emma use my bike, and Myta and I were on foot, so we arrived at Eve’s house at the same time. Eve lived on the edge of a cliff, that dived down into the sea. You could always hear the thundering waves, and you could smell the salty sea.

I can remember a story Eve told me, she was walking on the edge of the cliff, when she was three years old. She decided to dangle her feet off the edge, when she slipped and fell the sixty feet to the ocean beneath. She couldn’t swim at that age. She was drowning, and kept sinking further and further. Then, a golden figure pulled her up to the surface, and carried her to a cave that lay in rock cliff. Then, in a quiet voice, he said, “I will wait for you.” She curled up on the sandy cave floor, and was found by a fisherman who brought her to the police. Nobody believed she had been rescued by a golden figure. When she was eleven, her parents got divorced. When the court told her she could never see her daddy ever again, she decided to kill herself. She jumped off of the cliff and fell the sixty feet to the ocean. It engulfed her and she sank into the black water of the night. Then, a golden figure pulled her to the surface, and carried her to a cave. Then he told her “I am not ready for you yet.”

Eve’s mom answered the door, and looked shocked when she saw us. “Girls, shouldn’t you be in school?”

“We came to see Eve,” I told her.

“She’s in her room, just, be quiet because she has a really bad headache.”

We slowly walked through the halls, and entered Eve’s room. I expected to see her with a bag of chips, sitting at the computer with rock music blaring. I expected to see her with her hair spiky from tons of hair gel, and in red and black. I expected her to have the window open to let in the sea air. I wanted to see her with rosy cheeks and a creepy smile that matched mine so well, I wanted to see this like I have for the three years we have been friends, but I didn’t. The room was dark, with only a little bit of light through the dirty windows, she was in bed, with her hair down. Her cheeks were blank, like an empty canvas, to match her emotionless face. The room was full of an eerie silence. On her side table there was no junk food, only bottles of medication. She was wearing a light pink nightgown. When we entered, she gave us a strained smile, before turning back to look out the window.

“We came to make sure you were ok,” Myta spoke.

“The doctor will be here soon, we will know then,” She replied

“You had us worried, you weren’t responding to our calls or texts or e-mails,” Emma told her

“My cell phone is in my backpack along with my laptop, and I have to stay in bed”

“So, how are you feeling?” I asked, this too was a dumb question but I was at a loss for words, I had never seen her like this.

“I keep coughing and my stomach hurts. I have a bad headache, and I feel really dizzy and weak.” She replied in a soft voice.

“Well we will let you sleep,” Myta told her before I could reply. She turned to leave and Emma soon followed. After they had left, I began to creep towards the door. As I turned to wave.

“Wait!” Eve said and jumped up out of her bed. She threw her arms over my shoulders and hugged me tight. “I know you’re really worried, but I will get better, I promise. Please don’t leave me”

I hugged her back, “I promise, I will never leave you,” I said and patted her back. It triggered a cough.

She kept coughing and coughing and I kept hugging her because she wouldn’t let go. I felt a liquid on my back and figured it was spit, so I decided to ignore it. Finally, she let go and walked backwards until she hit her bed and she sat down. I waved one last time and turned to leave. Once I had left the room, I wiped the spit off of my back. But something was wrong, when I looked at my jeans where I had wiped it off, they were blood red.

Chapter 3: Won’t make it to High School

Ambulances, doctors, chaos, it was all new to me. When I showed Eve’s mom the blood on my pants, she freaked out and dialed 911. Within half an hour, emergency crews filled Eve’s house and dragged her to the hospital. I was left behind, with just Myta and Emma. Nothing they said could comfort me, and a few times I considered walking to the hospital, but it would be a three hour walk. Instead, I decided to walk home, not motioning Myta and emma to follow, or saying anything. I just left, and they followed. My mom found out about me ditching school, so as soon as I got home I was grounded. But it didn’t matter, all that mattered, was Eve. My body shook in fear, and it took me half an hour to realize Myta and Emma weren’t behind me. Selfishly enough though, I didn’t care. They’re probably fine. Unlike Eve, who was almost my everything, and really sick at the hospital, all by herself.
